Out of Range

Design 1

Please let us know what you think of this. It is our first design for the exhibition. It incorporates
the photographic process with references to darkroom photography and the physical negative. You can leave your comments on the logo by adding a comment to the post. Please do let us know what you think?

looks fine / good.
only thing it looks to me more like paint splats than anything photographic...
not sure if i'd directly hook up that logo and photography in my head.

I am in agreement with that, also i think it is too soon to disregard the rangefinder idea as it was a good for visual for the name of the show and also directly relates to all lens based media

I think Alex has a point, it does look a bit painterly and not so much photographic. I know it's huge work but have u guys tried actually doing it in the dark room?? But otherwise like it. Would like to see more ideas though. :)

I tend to agree it has perhaps more of a graphic design show look about it rather than immediately relating to photography although I do see the alternative process/darkroom thing going on. I actually really like those colours though... I think some of the very first font type designs that you guys put forward were quite interesting, I know maybe it just looks a bit like a boring old font, but perhaps it needs to be accompanied by something photographic rather than there being no imagery at all.

I agree with Sophia that the rangefinder idea could be good... Perhaps if something was mocked up using that and maybe employing some of the same techniques in the current logo it could be interesting... just an idea!

Hi, Tracy here, obviously the design and logo are important to how we market the exhibition and so it is vital that we get this right. I think it is a nice graphic design logo and I appreciate Dave spending time to get this produced, however the issue really that it does not have any connection with the name whatsoever, this is what logos and design should do which is why we made an overall decision to use the rangefinder idea to work with and not just a general nice graphic design logo...it doesn't look photographic at all and more painterly with the splats etc...I think we need to go back to the drawing board with this in mind and work on the rangefinder idea. I suggest that maybe we employee a professional designer who can bring us a range (excuse the pun...) of designs and then we can all make a democratic decision ie. heads of teams filtering this back through to the head ponchos.
